Every Saturday morning between 0930 and 1130 come along and learn the skills to paddle a touring/expedition sea kayak, skills will be taught from the basic strokes up to and including those in the British Canoe Union 3 star personal performance award. Sessions will be on the sea, but if conditions are too rough then the session will run on the safe environment of the canal, so that a comfortable learning environment will enable all to perfect their skills before transferring them on to the more dynamic conditions of the sea.
Once a month these sessions will be replaced by a journey, these will either be from the centre or taken to the many lovely coastal locations in the South East, venues will be decided nearer the date to take in to account weather and tide conditions. Times for these are down for 1000 to 1500, but may vary if travelling is required to get to the paddling destination. You’ll also have the opportunity to go for your 3 star assessment. Sea kayaking will now be incorporated into the Thursday evening session 1800 to 2000, skills will be taught up to and including those needed for the BCU/UKCC 3 Star Sea Kayak award, sessions will be on the sea but as mentioned previously if weather conditions do not permit this those skills will be honed on the canal.
BCU Coastal Navigation and Tidal Planning and Open Water Navigation and Tidal Planning course will be hosted by the centre run by Howard Jeffs on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th January 2013 respectively, costs are £60 per course or £110 if attending both cousrses.
Seapoint is hosting a Sea Kayak Symposium on 18th/19th May, please see page on website, also we are hosting in the week before and after the symposium Seapoint will be hosting a sea kayaking development courses, come along to train and be assessed for the BCU 3 Star Sea Kayak Award, complete Coastal Navigation course and do your 4 Star Sea Kayak training, you don’t have to do the whole week, just the bits that you are ready for!
